Year 1914
Although the park now has plenty
of hotels and resorts (not counting Eiffel), it was initially built in 1914
during the reign of King Henry II. Its purpose was to celebrate European
culture and produce artful cartoons that would be shown around the continent.
The first edition of Mickey Mouse took its name from the French language word
montéré (literally “downtown”). That same year, however, the theme-park opened
its doors to tourists.
Year 1942
In 1942, the government decided
to build an official amusement park in France. On top of the already completed
railway terminal, where passengers once stood, the area was divided into two
parts: in the center, there was the main hall, which served visitors coming
directly from their transport; in the suburbs were smaller pavilions, and the
parking lot.
1959-1970
They needed more space and better
protection, so in 1959, they started building new structures, including three
roller coasters in the former location, six mini golf courses, an aqua ride,
two pools, four large swimming pools – in total, there were 24 rides installed
in those buildings. Of course, this expansion continued, but it wouldn’t happen
overnight – until 1966. At the end of that decade, the construction of
Disneyland began, and by 1970, it reached its peak. For almost a century now,
it has been hosting thousands of visitors every day.
Plans for "Disney City"
However, since 2016, Disney has
shut down the park in favor of reopening it in 2024. If that decision seems
unfair, well, it actually isn’t. Since 2016, Disney Paris has been moving
slowly toward becoming a reality. So far, even Disneyland is being rebuilt, and
this means that there are still quite some improvements to keep implementing.
Today Disney is planning to open Disney City, not a completely different
Disneyland – just smaller, but better. Also, despite the fact that such a thing
has yet to exist in recent history, its existence can be traced back to many
centuries ago.
How Disneyland got its name?
The original version of
Disneyland was named after Charles Emile d’Anjou, king of France who ruled over
Normandy from 1430 to 1437, and his castle was on the island. When he died, his
son, Henri V, inherited the throne, but unfortunately, Henri could never find
any heir to take away the crown. He finally left the court, and it was only
when Louis XIV arrived that Henri turned his attention to Disneyland – in fact,
he became the godfather of Disneyland, and since that point, it has been known
as the first ever formal amusement park in the country.
Trip to Disneyland
Today, Disneyland Paris, as well
as Disney’s second Disneyland, which opened nearly thirty years ago, have
become the largest entertainment park in the world. Here’s a list of the
attractions, experiences and activities you can enjoy while at Disney:
1. Disney World Resort & Spa – The Jungle Cruise
A trip through the exotic jungles
of Central America awaits you here. You will be taken on a journey filled with
incredible animals from a variety of habitats. Take your seat inside the jungle
hut and watch the colorful creatures dart around it including several exclusive
ones, such as the jaguar.
2. Nighttime safari
A night on the tree tops is
something Disney guests usually don’t like, but the jungle hut offers a unique
way to experience a nighttime safari. All kinds of animals can be found here,
like plants, fungi and fossils. With your hand held in peace and your feet in
the wonderful greenery of the jungle, you’re going to fall asleep (because of
the bright blue lighting, of course), dreaming about seeing your next visit.
After all, these characters are meant to represent them, and if there is an animal
not included in the collection, then it signifies happiness and life.
3. Wave Springs
Another fascinating feature of
this area is the creation of a gigantic water slide, aptly nicknamed Wave
Springs. Inside, you will see various underwater species of aquatic reptiles,
including sea lions and stingrays.
4. Shark week
Another thrilling moment is Shark
Week, during which you can swim through eight massive shark tanks, each with
thousands of sharks lurking within. During your adventure, feel free to dive
under everything in order to collect up to 10 pieces of meat, shells, eggs as
well as bones.
5. Tour of Everglades
If you’re looking to spend a
weekend wandering freely in the swamps of Florida, a tour of the Everglades
also awaits you here. Your tour starts in Key West, and from there, you’ll pass
Orlando, Tampa Beach and San Juan Island. At last count, there were roughly
15,000 seahorses of various breeds living in the Everglades, and they come
alive on display here.
6. Marine Mammal Program – a trip to hidden islands and beaches
In addition, the marine mammal
program gives many rare sightings throughout the entire park. Plus, you’ll
discover hidden islands and beaches with beautiful tropical scenery. You may
even take to kayaking along the waterways, as well as diving off rocks and
snorkeling into coral reefs. The park does provide a boat rental service for
your stay, but this option is limited to groups and private parties. You can
book ahead for this excursion online or call the office at any given moment
throughout the vacation. No matter how long you plan on staying at the park,
the staff will provide all kinds of assistance and support. Their goal is to
give you the most memorable time possible. Before leaving, you’ll be offered a
chance to purchase a souvenir, and this must be purchased between 10AM and 6PM
daily.
Tips on purchasing items from park
Other than choosing which items
are purchased, here are a couple of tips on buying them:
1. Bear in mind that most of the
items bought are handmade and handcrafted.
2. Buy early as opposed to
waiting till the crowds fill up at 7AM (yes, you read that right).
3. Never choose non-perishable
goods, as these items are damaged.
4. Last but not least, do your
research before you buy anything, as each souvenir can carry its own weight of
meaning.
To be continued….
